"Empowering children, parents, and families to build healthy relationships, solve problems, and feel fulfilled. "

All children experience ups and downs. Not to mention there is a big, dynamic, ever changing world out there! This can be overwhelming and lead to stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. On top of that, children may not know how to express these feelings or feel heard.

No matter how much you try, it may feel like your child isn’t listening. And you’re not hearing them. Despite lots of attempts to solve the problem, you are getting nowhere and struggling to connect.

I will help your child find their voice. And I will help you hear them in a way that they feel understood and supported by you.

I am here to partner with you in understanding your child. Together, we will create structure within your family system and enhance family connections. The well-being of your family is my number one priority.

I intentionally named my practice "Growing Together" to emphasize the process of growing and learning collaboratively together in therapy. Whether this means as a parent and child, siblings, a parental unit, or you working individually with me as your therapist. When everyone is working together, we can create a safe space to focus on becoming your best self and growing healthy relationships.

Parent Coaching

Parenting is no joke! We have to manage behavior, set limits, and have realistic expectations for our children, all while trying to take care of ourselves too! Children thrive with consistency and structure. But what are the rules and limits that are the right ones for your child? We are often comparing ourselves and our family to others, through social media or the community, but only you as the parent truly knows what your child needs.

Sometimes children present with challenging behaviors and a parent seeks out support or therapy for the child to resolve these issues. However, children are then left to return to the same environment, which hasn’t made any changes. My expertise allows me to work with my clients through a systemic lens, enabling parents to make the needed changes for their children to be most successful.

Parents find faster success and feel empowered when their own changes create a safer environment for their children and more peace at home. In working with me, parents gain tangible techniques and strategies to use in times of need.

Becoming comfortable in your parenting style or getting on the same page as your partner is challenging. If you need help creating structure, setting limits, and developing healthy boundaries, I am here for you.  Our work will focus on making mindful decisions based on your own values and desired outcomes.

Family Therapy

Families often enter into dysfunctional cycles of communication. This may involve lots of screaming, yelling, and chaos. Or, you may feel alone despite living in a full house. My job is to break that cycle. Through our therapeutic work, each family member will feel secure in expressing their wants and needs and feel heard by one another. Our work together is individualized to meet the needs and goals of your family.

After working with me, families express an increased sense of ease within the family dynamics. Each family member feels heard and understood. Each individual develops improved communication skills and connection.

Play Therapy for Children

Play is a specialized and unique way for children to express themselves. At a young age, children can struggle to express or identify their big feelings. Play provides them with a way to engage and express their experiences without some of the complications of talk therapy.

Through a safe therapeutic space, children can process trauma, increase understanding of big feelings, develop healthier ways to communicate, and learn coping skills.

Counseling for Children

My work with children focuses on allowing the child to identify their thoughts and feelings while finding healthy ways to express themselves. Children often struggle to appropriately express themselves which may lead to inappropriate behaviors to get their point across.

Early intervention with children is so important as it can prevent more persistent long term emotional problems. The caregivers' involvement in therapy is imperative at this age. Together, we will cultivate skills that leave you feeling confident and competent.

Adolescence is a perfect age to begin therapeutic services. Whether for a specific need or just to have a positive relationship with a therapist, adolescents have lots of feelings, thoughts, and ideas to be shared. A therapist ensures an adolescent feels heard and understood, often leading to increased self-esteem and self-worth.

Therapy for Teens

Being a teenager brings its own set of challenges. If you find your teenager is struggling with being bullied, academic performance, stress management, self-confidence, therapy may be the safe space they need.

Therapy will allow your teen to gain insight and knowledge into their own growing emotions and coping skills. Together, we can create a solid foundation to build on as they transition into their adult life.

Counseling for Adults

I strive to provide adults with a non-judgemental space where they can share openly and deeply about themselves and their relationships. I am prepared and ready to help individuals overcome the most challenging of circumstances. These struggles may include trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, and adoption related issues. Together, we will create an individualized approach to identify strengths, overcome barriers and seek aspirations.

Supervision for MFT & MHC Interns

As a Qualified Supervisor, I offer supervision for registered interns pursuing their license. My supervision style is collaborative, systems-focused, and direct. Quality supervision is essential to a successful therapeutic relationship and creating even a small shift in the lives of our clients. I am excited to share my perspective and knowledge in providing you with a high quality supervision experience.

My Story
Jessica Califf Child and Parent Therapy Plantation 4.jpg

As the oldest sibling of two much younger siblings, I took great pride in caring for them as if they were my own children! I loved watching them explore the world and experience new things.

This experience gifted me with my warm and thoughtful personality but also challenged me as I witnessed them experience life's challenges. It is hard to watch loved ones struggle!

This experience steered me toward my interest in working with children. I worked in many preschools, schools, camps, and community settings but never felt the impact was as strong until I started working with children and families in unison in the therapy setting.

Becoming a family therapist has been a privilege as it has allowed me to cultivate this passion in empowering children and strengthening families.

My Background

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MT 3016) with 10 years experience working with individuals, couples, children, and families. I earned my Master’s in Education from the University of Miami and my Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Florida.

I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and utilize many modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and systems theories. I specialize in working with trauma, adoption, grief, loss, and life transitions. I have the honor of working in an agency setting which has allowed me to work creatively and collaboratively in meeting my clients needs.

Just For Fun

When I am not working, I really enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love relaxing and my first choice is always the beach! My other hobbies include reading, music (specifically R&B and Usher!), and finding ways to move on my Peloton!

Why Work with Me?

My style of therapy is not about diagnosing the problem or finding fault. Family issues are a part of life and seeking therapy is normal. I will make sure you feel this way throughout the process.

Your child is not the problem and therapy is not a punishment. My style focuses on building interconnectedness and strengthening family relationships. Every family can use that!

I have immense gratitude in working with my clients and I am always fully present during our time together. I am happy to collaborate with family members, schools, and other supports for your family as needed. I provide an online counseling option, in addition to flexible hours.
