My Counseling Services
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I help people across their lifespan. I work with couples, adults, and families struggling with a wide variety of difficulties. For more information about some of my counseling specializations and the services I offer, read below.
Couples Counseling or Marriage Therapy:
There are many issues and challenges that couples face that affect their relationship. It’s important for couples to have the ability to work through these issues in a healthy and effective way. But most couples don’t have the tools to do that. As a result, the unresolved issues begin to accumulate and create more serious issues within the marriage or relationship.
One of my passions is working with couples. It’s very satisfying to me to help people have the type of marriage or relationship they have always wanted and deserve to have. Imagine how good it would feel to truly be able to resolve differences and challenges that both of you can agree on and feel good about.
I have extensive experience and training in working with couples to develop the tools they need to have that relationship. As a result, couples will have a deeper and more meaningful relationship then what they had before. I will work with you to develop a healthy way of communicating with each other so that you can work through any issue. These tools can change your relationship forever.
Counseling for Adults:
Everybody experiences personal issues and challenges as they go through life. These challenges may include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief issues, substance use/abuse, and more. I have extensive experience working with these issues.
Are you waking up in the morning feeling so anxious that you can’t eat and wondering how you are going to get through the day? Or maybe you’re feeling so depressed that you have no interest or motivation to get out of bed. Maybe you have recently lost a loved one and are struggling with the emptiness and loneliness that it brings. Have you turned to alcohol and other substances to help you cope with these issues but only end up feeling more pain as a result?
Imagine feeling grateful upon awakening for the opportunity to experience another day and all that it has to offer. Imagine being at peace with yourself as you go through your day. Imagine being truly appreciative and thankful for who you are and no longer needing substances to cope with life. All of this is possible for you. You deserve to have these things and more.
When you enter counseling with me you will find a safe, comfortable, and peaceful environment where you will feel free to express your thoughts and feelings regarding what you are struggling with. You will have a trained and experienced counselor who is understanding, empathetic, caring, and compassionate. We will work together in identifying your goals for therapy and establishing a plan to help you reach those goals.
Family life can be one of the best things that life has to offer. Family members can experience love, caring, support, understanding, along with a consistently peaceful environment.
Unfortunately, many families don’t experience this. Some of the things they experience are arguing, fighting, feeling alone, stress, and hopelessness. The family system is out of balance and operating in a dysfunctional manner. Children then start to act out that dysfunction in their own destructive and unhealthy behaviors.
My goal and desire is to identify what needs to be restored and repaired in the family system so that they can experience all the benefits of an emotionally healthy family.
Here are some of the things that a healthy functioning family needs to have:
*Structure- parents need to be united and work together in parenting children. They need to establish an environment where the children respect their parental authority.
*Boundaries and Consequences- children need to understand what is acceptable and what isn’t. Parents need to be consistent in giving consequences when children do something they know is inappropriate or unacceptable.
*It Starts With The Parents- the relationship between the parents needs to be good. If there are unresolved issues between the parents, those issues need to be addressed and resolved. How parents interact with each other will have a direct impact on the children’s behavior. When parents are loving, kind, respectful, and complimentary toward each other their children will learn to be the same way.
*Be Respectful- always talk and treat all family members with respect, including children. There are times when we need to give guidance and direction or hold children accountable. And there are times when we need to be firm. But we always do it in a respectful and non-threatening way.
Family issues are not as complex and complicated as they can appear to be. Reach out and get help if you are not experiencing the family life that you and your loved ones deserve to have.
My Story & Background
There was a time in my life when I experienced my own suffering and difficult challenges. I struggled for a long time trying to cope with them on my own but was unsuccessful. I finally hit bottom and reached out for help. To this day, I am truly grateful for the professional help that I received to help me work through what I needed to work through and obtain a truly peaceful and joyous life.
From that experience, I realized what my life purpose was meant to be going forward. And that was to help others with whatever they were struggling with and to help them to also obtain a peaceful, joyous life.
I went back to college at Syracuse University where I received a Masters Degree in Social Work with an emphasis in Family Systems. I graduated in 1995 and began working full time helping those who were in need and have been doing so ever since.
I have worked extensively during the past 27 years with a very broad range of clients with issues that include, but are not limited to families, couples, and individuals. The struggles I have helped clients overcome include marital and family issues, anxiety, depression, substance use/abuse, couples counseling, grief, and more.
My compassion, empathy, and experience, along with a sincere desire to help others has allowed my countless number of clients to reach their goals for therapy and to experience the peaceful and joyous life they deserve. It is a privilege and a pleasure to see and hear the deep gratitude and happiness that these clients express as they work through their challenges.
A number of years ago, I was fortunate to be selected to be trained by world renowned therapist, Dr. Salvador Minuchin, who was a co-founder of Family Therapy. This experience has been invaluable to me as I work with families. I have also been trained in The Gottman Method For Couples Therapy along with many more trainings.
Just For Fun
Having a balanced life is needed if we are to have a truly peaceful and happy life. Exercise, meditation, spending time with family and friends, and practicing mindfulness are some of the things that I do to find that balance.
On the weekends you can find me early in the morning riding my bike up along the coast of A1A. After that, I’m headed home to pick up my best friend, Teddy, who is my beloved dog.
From there we head out to our favorite Starbucks for our favorite beverage and relaxation. The rest of the day is spent with family and friends enjoying life and all that it has to offer.
