Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern

“Transform challenges into strengths, find your path to freedom and reach your full potential.”

I used to think that being strong meant never having to ask for help, but life has taught me that, well, I am... human. Challenges are a natural part of life. We all need support at some point in our lives, yet only a few of us have the courage to ask for help. Our culture teaches us to be self-sufficient and individualistic. Because of this, it may seem counterintuitive for us to allow ourselves to become vulnerable.

Vulnerability and humility, however, are required to grow, explore new paths and reach our full potential.  We, humans, are social beings and are not designed to survive on our own. Accepting this fact produces optimal results and allows us to free ourselves of false beliefs and begin a healing growth process towards true happiness, love, fulfillment, balance and peace.

Anyone and everyone would benefit from some form of psychotherapy.  Feel free to reach out for any reason, including if you are just struggling to make important decisions and need objective guidance.

I am specifically passionate about helping others who are:

  • suffering from any form of oppression or discrimination (including the LGBTQ or any other minority communities);

  • suffering from addiction;

  • experiencing mental health symptoms (e.g., anxiety, depression, panic attacks or PTSD);

  • going through a professional identity crisis;

  • having difficulties adjusting to a new cultural, professional, or personal reality; and/or

  • having difficulties forming and maintaining healthy relationships.

Am I the right therapist for you? Regardless of the theoretical framework or intervention a therapist uses to help clients, the most determinant element in positive outcomes is connection and trust between the therapist and client.

My Story

Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to pursue a career in psychotherapy, but life circumstances led me to follow a non-traditional path into the field from which I gained an insiders’ perspective of the corporate and organizational world.

I have experience living in different countries and working cross-culturally. This allows me to see the world from different perspectives. I learned that there are no absolute truths and approach challenges from multiple angles. I also have particular expertise in LGBTQ communities and in the field of addictions.

My Background

I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work from New York University where I specialized in substance use and co-occurring disorders as well as LGBTQ related issues. I am also an affiliate member of the Florida Psychoanalytic Institute.

My therapeutic style is eclectic and consists of combining my personal experiences with my education and training to provide a unique blend of clinical care.  I draw from a variety of styles and techniques to develop a course of action most appropriate for each of my clients primarily focused in psychodynamic relational and/or attachment-based theories.

I also incorporate techniques based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs), trauma-informed care, solution focused therapy, and motivational interviewing.

In addition to being a part of the Bayview Therapy team, I am also a Therapist at SunServe (LGBTQ mental health services) and the Source Addiction Treatment Center. I am also involved with the Humanity Project, a not-for-profit organization that works to advance equality and respect for every member of society.

Prior to Bayview Therapy, I held a position as Clinical Outreach Professional at Futures Recovery Healthcare in Palm Beach, which consisted of being a primary therapist and leading community relations in South Florida, focused in Broward County, Miami-Dade and Latin America.  Prior to Futures, I completed a clinical internship at Hazelden Betty

Ford and the Ali Forney Center (LGBTQ community), in NYC.

I am admitted to practice law in the State of Florida and hold a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown Law University.  I also have a Finance and Accounting Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College.

Prior to entering the mental and behavioral health fields, I was a corporate media executive for 15+ years as Vice President of Programming Acquisitions at DIRECTV for their Latin America and Brazil division.  In that role, I negotiated complex multi-country content rights (e.g., HBO, Fox, ESPN, Turner, and Disney), developed talent and led multi-cultural teams. Prior to DIRECTV, I was a corporate attorney at White & Case LLP and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.

Regardless of what I have been working on, there has never been anything more satisfying to me than helping people grow by promoting positive thinking, lighting up new perspectives, and pushing them through fears, cultural paradigms, and false sense of limits. My ability to do so has been a constant success driver throughout my different career paths.

Just For Fun

1.   I meditate for at least 10 minutes every morning followed by a cardio and strength-based workout;

2.    I’ve travelled to more than 50 countries;

3.    I led the launch of the first online TV service in Latin America;

4.    I designed and implemented an educational program that now exists in more than 5,000 schools across South America;

5.    I am in the process of writing a book that I hope to publish within the next year (or two); and

6.    I have a dog and a cat who both need therapy and I have not been able to heal their relationship… they barely tolerate each other.
